Manchester United are set to miss out on signing Lille striker Jonathan David, according to iNews.

The Canadian star is available as a free agent with his Lille contract expiring at the end of June.

David has been linked with a Premier League move on multiple occasions, but that appears unlikely.

United made an approach for the 25-year-old earlier this month, but he is now on the cusp of joining Napoli.

The Serie A champions have made a concrete offer to his agent and are in pole position to land his services.

The news is a setback for the Red Devils, who missed out on recruiting Liam Delap earlier this month.

The Englishman was open to the idea of joining the Red Devils but changed his stance after Chelsea arrived on the scene.

United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League paved the way for Delap to favour a switch to the Blues instead.

The club now need to find a different alternative.
