Manchester United will need to pay £80 million to sign West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes this summer, according to Record.
The Red Devils have already secured a deal to land Atalanta star Ederson, but they are aiming to strengthen their midfield department further.
Fernandes has been earmarked as a top target by the hierarchy, but it appears a deal could be difficult to finalise with the Hammers demanding a huge fee.
West Ham signed the 21-year-old Portuguese from Southampton for £40 million last summer, and they want double the price despite top-flight relegation.
United, on the other hand, have no plans of meeting those demands. They are expected to negotiate with the Hammers to sort out a reduced package.
It remains to be seen whether they can convince the Hammers, who may need to recoup plenty of funds from player sales to balance their books.
Jean-Clair Todibo and Jarrod Bowen are expected to be sold too.
