Major Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Story Change Is Outraging Fans

More news is slowly trickling in about Final Fantasy 7 Revelation now that Gamescom 2026 has come to an end. As with Summer Game Fest in June, the director of the RPG, Naoki Hamaguchi, has given new interviews related to FF7 Revelation. This has given us insights on new playable characters, the game’s map, and even changes from the original 1997 masterpiece’s story.

As anyone who’s played the first two games in the remake trilogy knows, story changes aren’t exactly uncommon. FF7 Rebirth had numerous changes and additions that made it feel like a truly unique experience. So, unsurprisingly, the story changes in FF7 Revelation might just be even more noticeable. However, there’s one confirmed change that Final Fantasy fans are already feeling pretty angry about — and honestly, I get it.

Over on X, Genki_JPN posted some quotes from FF7 Revelation Director Naoki Hamaguchi about the highly-anticipated RPG. Specifically, this was in regard to Chadley’s role in the finale. Hamaguchi said:

“In the previous game, in Rebirth his role was kind of a guide, a tutorial to lead people into the side content. But his role has actually changed for Revelation. We have prepared some scenes where he plays a very integral part, a strong role in the main story itself. I can’t tell you now whether he does become more powerful than Sephiroth or not, but you are going to have to see in the game and I hope you look forward to finding out.”

Yes, you read that right. Chadley will have a more integral part in the main story, with Hamaguchi going as far as to say it’s a “strong role in the main story itself.” Coming after the director said the team is fully aware how much people despise Chadley, this is honestly surprising news. And fans were overall pretty outraged about it.

Chadley Has A Bigger Role In FF7 Revelation

The post on X has mostly negative comments, with a few Chadley defenders thrown into the mix. Mostly, it’s about what you’d expect. People aren’t happy at the idea of Chadley becoming a playable character, or having a bigger role, although a few folks speculate it might be fun to fight him as a super boss.

Please… no more Chadley…” reads one of the comments.

The only way to redeem him to me is turning him into a super boss,” writes another fan.

Oh look, things nobody asked for and definitely didn’t want,” reads another unenthusiastic post.

Doubling down on the worst part of the remake games is not a sound idea,” writes yet another certified Chadley hater.

A few comments have pointed out that they believe Hamaguchi is joking around, while others point out the popular theory that Chadley is basically a character insert for Hamaguchi himself. Reasoning aside, most people do not like this character, so it’s understandably sad news when the director of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation states we’ll be seeing even more of Chadley in the near future.
