Major concern for New York Yankees after superstar slugger undergoes MRI on elbow problem

The New York Yankees are nervously awaiting the results of an MRI on the right elbow of star slugger Aaron Judge.

Judge was kept out of the line-up for Saturday’s clash with Philadelphia after injuring the joint in Tuesday’s game in Toronto.

He played in Friday’s defeat to the Phillies but experienced discomfort when trying to throw the ball in from the outfield. He is due to see head team physician Christopher Ahmad to discuss the outcome of the scan.

It’s a concern – Boone

Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters: “It was more about throwing [Friday] night. Like, he couldn’t really get the ball in very well.

“So we felt like we’d get the imaging and get our hands around just what exactly we’re dealing with.

“He had the throw in Toronto where it just zinged him it hurt, but then he felt it was good to go on the off day. Then [Friday] night, though, it was just a struggle to throw a little bit. So, we wanted to get this checked out.

“Obviously it’s a concern, but we’ll wait and see.”

Slumping Yankees can ill-afford for Judge to miss time

If Judge were to miss significant time, it would be a major blow to the slumping Yankees, who are 14-22 since June 13 and now 5.5 games behind the Blue Jays in the American League East.

The 33-year-old is the frontrunner to win a third AL MVP award after swatting 37 home runs with an average of .342.

Boone was not willing to speculate how a potential injury could alter the Yankees’ approach ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline.

He said: “I mean, now we’re getting into speculation. The thing I want [to know] is what do we have here now, and then what’s the course of action? So I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself with that, but hopefully it’s something that is manageable that we can get through.”
