There is no better feeling than awaiting a sequel to one of your favorite video games, and that is what many of us are doing for the next installment in the Control franchise. Created by Remedy Entertainment and set in the Alan Wake universe, Control was first released back in 2019 and follows the story of Jesse Faden, the new Director of the Federal Bureau of Control, a secret U.S. government agency that investigates and contains phenomena that violate the normal laws of reality.
Praised for its art direction, gameplay, characters, and setting, Control was a hit, and is still talked about to this day, even before Remedy Entertainment announced that a sequel was in development, titled Control Resonant.
Set to launch on 24 September, Control Resonant will continue where the first game left off, this time following Jesse’s brother Dylan as he explores and navigates a warped Manhattan on the brink of paranatural annihilation. However, thanks to his extraordinary reality-bending powers, Dylan may just have what it takes to stop humanity coming to an end.
Combining the visuals from the hit Love, Death & Robots with the reality-bending we last saw in Christopher Nolan’s Inception, Control Resonant is one of the most anticipated 2026 releases, and for good reason. Here is what the official synopsis reads:
“After years in confinement at the hands of the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC), Dylan Faden emerges into a warped Manhattan at the peak of a paranatural crisis.
Charged with combating a mysterious cosmic entity as it alters fundamental aspects of our reality, Dylan must harness his new-found powers to take the fight to the myriad threats overwhelming Manhattan.
Join Dylan in this sequel to the multi-award-winning CONTROL to explore the expansive zones of a city overrun by the corrupting influences of the chaotic Hiss, invasive micro-organism, the Mold, and other twisted paranatural threats.
On the path to unlocking the full potential of his paranatural abilities Dylan will also seek out his sister, FBC Director Jesse Faden, as he bids to comprehend and contain the dangers that have spilled beyond the confines of the Oldest House to tear our world apart.”
As Dylan explores an unrecognizable Manhattan in search of the entity which plagues it, players will expect a cityscape reshaped by a godlike force. However, with the ability to manipulate reality at will, our new protagonist is able to utilize the environment, deploy elemental abilities and most importantly, wield his shapeshifting melee weapon, the Aberrant. With the weapon able to morph into different types depending on the situation, it is the only companion he will need on his journey.
Control Resonant promises everything that Control had, but with the ambition ramped up 100%. From the trailers alone, we have seen a reality-bent world that many of us cannot wait to explore as the highly anticipated sequel launches in just a few weeks’ time.
