Rosenior on Lavia

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has provided a fresh injury update on Romeo Lavia ahead of the Champions League encounter against Napoli on the road on Wednesday night.

The Blues have travelled to Naples for the final league phase game of the competition and they need a victory to directly qualify for the round of 16 and avoid a knockout play-off round.

Ahead of the game, Rosenior was pressed on several topics by reporters. One of those was focused on Lavia, who has returned to individual training with the club after an extended lay-off.

In response, Rosenior said that the Belgian has the potential to become a world-class midfielder, and the club need to make sure that he is fully fit without any hurdles in the future.

He said: “In terms of Romeo, in his recent history it’s not been what he’s wanted. He has the potential to be a world-class midfielder.

“We need to make sure when he’s back he’s fully fit. He needs to clear a few hurdles before he fully trains, but I’m very excited to work with him.”

Chelsea have had a mixed European campaign thus far, but should fancy their chances of beating Napoli, who have won one of their last six games.
