Konami Confirms New Silent Hill Games Coming After Silent Hill F Success

Silent Hill f has breathed new life into the classic survival horror series, and Konami has now confirmed that more unannounced games are on the way. Two major releases are already slated: a remake of the original Silent Hill by Bloober Team, and Silent Hill: Townfall, developed by Screen Burn Interactive and published by Annapurna Interactive.

In a recent financial report from Konami, however, the property holder indicates that those two games are not the extent of its plans for Silent Hill. On the back of Silent Hill f‘s “overwhelmingly positive reaction from customers,” and “total global sales surpassing one million copies within two days of its release,” Konami has “plans to develop this series further going forward,” even beyond the SH1 remake and Townfall. While the Silent Hill 2 remake may have kick-started this revival, Konami seems to have a very positive internal perception of Silent Hill f‘s financial performance.

Silent Hill went into dormancy following the release of P.T. and the subsequent cancellation of Silent Hills, an installment being helmed by Hideo Kojima in collaboration with Frankenstein director Guillermo del Toro before the former’s falling out with Konami. Even the announcement of a remake of Silent Hill 2, arguably the series’ most beloved game, was met with trepidation. Bloober Team’s prior track record wasn’t promising, but the surprisingly refreshing take on Silent Hill 2 was the first indication that Konami was righting the ship.

With Silent Hill 2 quickly followed by the beautiful misery of Silent Hill f, the series appears back on track – so much so that Konami has gone on record confirming at least three coming games. Bloober Team’s Silent Hill remake and Screen Burn’s Silent Hill: Townfall will be followed by as yet unannounced games. “Konami will continue working to deliver titles in the Silent Hill series that will be loved by our fans around the world,” says the financial report.

Silent Hill F’s Success Proves The Series Is Back

The Silent Hill 2 remake was a promising first step after it felt like the series was fading into irrelevance, but Silent Hill f was the true test of its future. As Konami very pointedly notes in the financial report, SHf “is the first brand-new installment to be launched in 12 years.” SH2‘s remake is a major milestone for the once-struggling series, but remaking the series most famous game (even with the worries surrounding Bloober Team at the time) is a relatively safe bet. Silent Hill f proves the series isn’t out of great new ideas, and its success has shown Konami that a full revival is possible.

Konami’s financial report also makes explicit note of SHf being the series’ first game set in Japan. It’s impossible to know the internal strategies being discussed for the future of Silent Hill, but that specific spotlight in a financial report indicates the company is cognizant of the potential in continuing to expand the series beyond its original, eponymous setting in the United States. One million copies sold in two days is a pretty astounding figure, and the one-two punch of Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill f has the series enjoying its best reputation in years, which Konami is clearly ready to capitalize on with at least three new Silent Hill games.
