Kessie re-joins Atalanta after Al-Ahli stint

Franck Kessie has returned to Atalanta, nine years after he departed the Serie A club.

Kessie was a free agent following the end of his three-season stint with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli.

The Ivory Coast international won the AFC Champions League Elite twice during his time at Al-Ahli, having joined them from Barcelona in a deal worth €12.5m.

Kessie came through the ranks at Atalanta, but he departed for AC Milan in 2017. He spent five years at San Siro prior to his move to Barca.

Roma and Juventus were also reportedly interested in the 29-year-old, but he has elected to return to Bergamo.

Kessie made 30 Serie A appearances for Atalanta during his first spell, scoring six goals and laying on three assists.
