Calafiori to Madrid?

Incoming Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has his sights on signing Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori this summer.

The Madrid giants went a second season without winning the Spanish La Liga title, and they are determined to end the drought next term.

Mourinho is expected to be announced as their next head coach, and he is expected to prioritise signings to bolster the defence.

The club have already sealed a deal for Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries. They have triggered his £17m release clause.

The Madrid heavyweights are also poised to sign Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate on a free when his contract expires on June 30.

Alongside the duo, Mourinho has now urged Los Blancos’ hierarchy to pursue a deal for Calafiori from the Premier League champions.

Arsenal signed the left-back from Bologna for £42m two years ago, and as things stand, they have no plans of parting ways with him.

It could take a significant fee of at least £80m to persuade them.
