Former England captain Jos Buttler delighted cricket fans by sharing a heartfelt gift he received from Rohit Sharma following the recently concluded ODI series between England and India. The wicketkeeper-batter took to Instagram Stories to post a picture of an autographed Team India ODI jersey gifted by the Indian opener, expressing his admiration for Rohit with a touching message. The exchange quickly went viral, highlighting the mutual respect shared between two modern-day greats who have enjoyed several memorable battles in both international and franchise cricket.
Jos Buttler shares Rohit Sharma’s special gift after ODI series
Buttler posted a picture of the signed India ODI jersey on his Instagram Stories and revealed that it was the one opposition shirt he had always wanted. Calling Rohit one of his all-time favourite players, the former England captain thanked the Indian batter for the memorable gift.
The gesture came after India and England wrapped up their three-match ODI series, with England clinching the contest 2-1 after winning the final two matches. Rohit also left a personal note on the jersey, reflecting on the bond the two have built over the years through international cricket and the IPL.
“Dear Jos, Loved my time playing with & against you.”
Sharing the picture, Buttler wrote:
“The one opposition player’s shirt I’ve always wanted. One of my all-time favourite players! Will treasure this. Thank you @rohitsharma45.”
Rohit signs off England tour with memorable Lord’s century
Although India ended up losing the series, Rohit produced one of the standout performances of the ODI leg in the decider at Lord’s. Chasing a daunting target of 389, the veteran opener played a magnificent knock of 138 from just 110 deliveries, keeping India’s hopes alive with an innings filled with elegant strokeplay and controlled aggression.
The century was another landmark in Rohit’s illustrious ODI career. He became the first Indian batter to score an ODI century at Lord’s while also equalling Viv Richards’ record for the highest individual ODI score at the iconic venue. It was also Rohit’s eighth ODI century on English soil, the most by any batter in a single overseas country.
A friendship built beyond international cricket
The relationship between Rohit and Buttler extends well beyond India-England contests. Buttler made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2016 under Rohit’s captaincy and was part of the franchise’s title-winning campaign in 2017. Since then, the two have shared several memorable moments both as teammates and opponents across different tournaments.
During the recently concluded white-ball series, Buttler featured in all five T20Is and three ODIs for England. His best performance came in the fifth T20I at Southampton, where he smashed an unbeaten 131 to guide England to a commanding victory. While the two players battled fiercely on the field throughout the tour, Buttler’s heartfelt tribute after the series once again showed the respect and admiration that exists between some of cricket’s biggest stars.
