Jason Statham has been entertaining audiences as a Hollywood action star for over 25 years. From his early work like The Transporter and Revolver, to more recent movies like The Beekeeper and A Working Man, most of his movie characters know how to fight and navigate pulse-pounding situations. He’s also participated in a few major franchises, like when he played Lee Christmas in The Expendables movies.

However, Fast & Furious is unquestionably Statham’s biggest franchise. After cameoing in Fast & Furious 6’s mid-credits scene, the actor made his full debut as Deckard Shaw in Furious 7. Like his brother, Luke Evans’ Owen Shaw, Deckard started out as an enemy to Dominic Toretto’s crew, but has since joined them. Along with his continued appearances in the core Fast & Furious movies, Statham also re-teamed with Dwayne Johnson for 2019’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Though that spinoff has yet to receive a sequel, it is finally returning to streaming soon.

Statham’s Hobbs & Shaw Is Finally Coming Back To A Proper Streaming Home

Hobbs & Shaw will be available to watch on Hulu starting Monday, September 14. This comes after a long period where the Fast & Furious spinoff has only been available to stream on The Roku Channel, meaning it will finally be housed on one of the bigger streaming services. Hobbs & Shaw is one of several major motion pictures left to premiere on Hulu later this month, with others including Babylon, Wicked, and A Complete Unknown.

After they clashed in Furious 7 and The Fate of the Furious, Statham’s Deckard joined forces with Johnson’s Luke Hobbs in Hobbs & Shaw to help his sister, Vanessa Kirby’s Hattie Shaw, stop cybernetic ally-enhanced terrorist Brixton Lore, played by Idris Elba. Helen Mirren also reprised Queenie Shaw, Deckard, Hattie, and Owen’s mother, while the supporting cast included Eiza González, Cliff Curtis, Roman Reigns, and Eddie Marsan, among others. Ryan Reynolds, Kevin Hart, and Rob Delaney also made cameo appearances.

Hobbs & Shaw Is Still Waiting On Its Planned Sequel

Directed by David Leitch, and written by Chris Morgan and Drew Pearce, the first Fast & Furious spinoff movie earned mixed critical reactions. ScreenRant’s review of Hobbs & Shaw rated the movie five out of 10 stars, saying that it “is partially successful in evolving the Fast & Furious property, yet mostly comes off feeling like a branding exercise for The Rock.” Commercially, however, it was successful, making over $760 million worldwide. By spring 2020, it was confirmed that Hobbs & Shaw 2 was in development.

Six years later, this sequel still has yet to surface. The Hobbs & Shaw ending laid the groundwork for the title protagonists teaming up again, as the mysterious Eteon Director (voiced by Reynolds under the pseudonym “Champ Nightingale”) remotely deactivated Brixton, then informed Luke and Deckard that they, as well as Hattie, were on his radar. However, this sequel tease has been left unaddressed, and producer Kelly McCormick said in 2022 that there were “no conversations at this time” about moving forward with Hobbs & Shaw 2.

Since Hobbs & Shaw’s release, Statham cameoed as Deckard in F9, then played a supporting role in Fast X, while Johnson cameoed as Luke in Fast X’s end-credits scene. It remains to be seen if either actor will appear in March 2028’s Fast Forever, which comes out on March 17, 2028, and will conclude the main Fast & Furious film series. Additionally, there hasn’t been any update on the spinoff Hobbs & Reyes, which would see Luke battling Jason Momoa’s Dante Reyes in a story set between Fast X and Fast Forever, since it was announced in 2023.
