Italy go second with Turkey as Northern Ireland held but remain top


A host of nations concluded their international period on Monday with their fourth games in the Nations League.

France completed a dramatic win over Belgium, while Italy took on Turkey, Northern Ireland hosted Georgia and Ukraine faced Hungary.

Gianluca Scamacca opened the scoring before Aral Simsir equalised for the visitors, but Riccardo Calafiori quickly restored Italy’s lead with his first international goal.

Francesco Pio Esposito then added a late third to seal another impressive win for Roberto Mancini’s side.

Hungary claimed a crucial 2-1 victory over Ukraine to move level on points with their opponents in Group B2.

Milan Toth put Hungary ahead before Roman Yaremchuk levelled for Ukraine, but Mark Csinger struck five minutes later to restore the visitors’ lead and secure three points.

Northern Ireland were held to a goalless draw by Georgia in Belfast despite having the chance to win it from the penalty spot.

Isaac Price saw his late spot-kick saved by Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, leaving Northern Ireland still unbeaten but unable to extend their lead at the top of Group B2.

The midfielder struck in the 84th minute to settle a tight contest and move Bosnia onto five points, keeping them firmly in the Group B4 promotion race.
