RCB outclass GT to retain IPL title
Earlier in the evening, RCB produced a complete all-round performance to defeat GT by five wickets in the IPL 2026 final. After winning the toss, Rajat Patidar elected to bowl first, and the decision paid immediate dividends. Josh Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rasikh Salam kept Gujarat’s powerful batting lineup under constant pressure, restricting them to 155/8 from their 20 overs. Washington Sundar top-scored for the Titans with an unbeaten 50, but regular wickets prevented GT from building significant momentum.
Chasing 156, RCB got off to a flying start through Virat Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer. Kohli produced another masterclass on the biggest stage, bringing up the fastest IPL fifty of his career before finishing unbeaten on 75 from 42 deliveries. Despite a brief fightback from Gujarat through Rashid Khan, RCB remained firmly in control throughout the chase. Kohli’s composed innings ensured there were no late surprises as Bengaluru reached 161/5 with two overs to spare. The victory helped RCB successfully defend their IPL crown and become only the third franchise in tournament history to win back-to-back titles.
