IPL 2026 [WATCH]: Phil Salt pulls off a stunning screamer to dismiss Rishabh Pant during RCB vs LSG encounter

The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru bore witness to a high-octane clash on Wednesday, as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) hosted Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 23rd match of the IPL 2026 season. In a game defined by sharp reflexes and tactical bowling, RCB asserted their dominance early in the tournament. While the Bengaluru crowd is often treated to vintage batting displays, it was a moment of sheer brilliance in the field that stole the headlines, shifting the momentum irrevocably in favour of the home side.

Phil Salt takes a blinder to remove Rishabh Pant in RCB vs LSG showdown

The defining image of the match occurred in the 17th over of the LSG innings. Rishabh Pant, who had previously retired hurt and returned to the crease to stabilize a crumbling middle order, was looking to accelerate. Facing the veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Pant attempted his trademark low-flung whip off his pads against a low full toss.

The connection was clean, and the ball appeared destined to find the gap at deep square leg. However, Phil Salt had other plans. Patrolling the boundary, Salt read the trajectory instantly. Sprinting at full tilt to his left, he covered incredible ground before launching into a full-stretch, horizontal dive. He plucked the ball just inches from the turf, completing a screamer that left the stadium in stunned silence before erupting in cheers.

Pant was dismissed for a mere 1 run off 6 balls, a wicket that effectively ended LSG’s hopes of a late-inning flourish. The dismissal underscored RCB’s heightened intensity in the field and left LSG reeling at 124/6.

Rasikh Salam’s exceptional spell steers RCB to a dominant win

While Salt provided the highlight reel moment, the structural damage to the LSG lineup was inflicted by Rasikh Salam. Salam delivered a masterclass in change of pace and accuracy, finishing with stellar figures of 4/24 in his four overs. His victims included Aiden Markram and the dangerous Mukul Choudhary, who had threatened to rescue the innings with a 28-ball 39.

LSG’s innings was a story of starts that failed to convert. Mitchell Marsh looked formidable with 40 off 32 balls, and Ayush Badoni contributed a brisk 38, but the relentless pressure from RCB’s bowling unit, supported by Josh Hazlewood (1/20) and Bhuvneshwar (3/27), saw LSG bundled out for 146 in exactly 20 overs.

The chase was a clinical affair for the Royal Challengers. Despite losing Salt early for 7, Virat Kohli anchored the innings with a composed 49 off 34 balls, including 4 fours and a six. Contributions from Rajat Patidar (27) and a blistering cameo from Jitesh Sharma (23 off 9) ensured RCB remained ahead of the required rate. RCB reached the target of 147 in just 15.1 overs, finishing at 149/5. The 5-wicket victory, achieved with 29 balls to spare, catapulted RCB to the top of the table, leaving LSG to reflect on a batting performance that fell 30 runs short of a competitive total.
