The biggest indication that Hulu has a genuine hit on its hands came before audiences had even finished watching the first season, as the streamer renewed the show for a second installment pending the debut of the final episode.
Elizabeth Meriwether’s Furious is a gripping crime thriller starring Emmy Rossum as Alice Black, an FBI agent tracking down a mysterious woman whose violent campaign against powerful men becomes much more complicated than a conventional murder investigation. Furious isn’t the first crime drama to focus on a serial killer, but it is one of the few series that has a woman committing these gruesome crimes. Thankfully, the Hulu TV show handles the complicated topics it introduces carefully, further demonstrating why the streamer and audiences are eager for more.
Furious Is One Of 2026’s Best Shows So Far
Furious is easily on the list of the best TV shows of 2026 so far, largely because it understands that its premise isn’t entirely new. With television producing countless stories about damaged detectives chasing psychologically complex killers, Furious stands out because both sides of the investigation begin to look like products of the same broken system.
Alice isn’t simply hunting a monster. Catherine isn’t simply a monster either. Their stories overlap, forcing Alice to question whether the legal system is actually capable of delivering justice to those it has failed. That moral uncertainty is one of the show’s greatest strengths.
Emmy Rossum’s Alice Black is arguably the show’s best character. Alice is tough, intelligent, and capable, but she is also deeply flawed. Rossum doesn’t play her as the stereotypical tortured detective who drinks too much and has nightmares. The series instead reveals how her professional investigation is intertwined with her own traumatic past.
Beneath the murders and conspiracies, Furious has a lot of important themes. The series explores sexual abuse, trafficking, corruption, and powerful men who appear capable of escaping consequences. Luckily, Furious doesn’t treat these topics like material for a conventional crime story; it makes them the foundation of its narrative. That’s also why the show can be uncomfortable to watch. It isn’t interested in giving viewers the reassuring fantasy that every crime will be solved, and every villain will receive a satisfying punishment.
What To Expect From Furious Season 2
The Furious season 1 finale closed its overarching mystery, with Catherine ending up behind bars. The series, however, also left enough crumbs for its sophomore installment to explore. Meriwether has indicated that Furious season 2 could move Alice and Nora into a different investigation rather than simply extending Catherine’s story. However, Meriwether has also admitted that she does not yet have a fixed plan for the show’s future (via People).

The news of Alice being pulled into another case suggests that Furious will operate as an anthology series. The FBI agent will remain at the center of the story, but each season could explore different crimes. The ending of Furious season 1 dramatically changed Alice. Following her discovery of the horrific video connected to her childhood abuse, Alice doles out the vengeance that had escaped her. With the murder of Jay, Alice has now become exactly like the people she hunts. Whether she will become like Catherine remains to be seen.
Furious is an exceptional murder mystery series, but it also sheds light on the failings of the justice system. With Nora Washington (Quincy Tyler Bernstine) maybe taking on a bigger role in the show’s upcoming season, Furious will have another opportunity to explore the dysfunctional institutions surrounding Alice and Nora.
