The Canadian Game Awards is an annual celebration of Canada’s growing video game industry. 2026 is the 6th year of the show and the biggest one yet. The ceremony takes place on May 21, 2026, at the John Bassett Theatre in Toronto. This year has also seen a partnership between the Canadian Game Awards and XP Games Summit, which highlights the business side of the video game industry.

The nominees for the Canadian Game Awards represent both major releases such as Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Battlefield 6, and indie games like Wanderstop and Ctrl Alt Deal. Winners are selected by a jury of media and industry experts, including ScreenRant’s own Rob Keyes. This year also includes a new Fan Choice category in partnership with the Entertainment Software Association of Canada, giving players a chance to choose their favorite game.

Where to Watch the Canadian Game Awards

The Canadian Game Awards begins at 8:00 PM EST / 5:00 PM PST. Those not attending in Toronto can stream the award show online. ScreenRant is an official media partner of the event and fans can watch on ScreenRant’s YouTube or Twitch channel. It is also being streamed on the Canadian Game Awards YouTube channel and Twitch.

Prior to the Canadian Game Awards, there will be a pre-show in partnership with Toronto Community MeetUp, a community of content creators and game developers in Toronto. The pre-show will kick off the Canadian Game Awards at 7:00 PM on their Twitch Channel with hosts Matthew Rondina (Dapper Tux) and Camille Salazar Hadaway.

Who is Hosting the Canadian Game Awards?

This year, Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer are the hosts of the Canadian Game Awards. Hale is a Canadian-American voice actress with an extensive career in both animation and video games. She is best known for voicing the female Commander Shepard in the Mass Effect games, Naomi Hunter and Emma Emmerich in the Metal Gear games, and Silver Sable across a number of Spider-Man games.

Mark Meer is a Canadian voice actor and improv comedian. He voices the male Commander Shepard in the Mass Effect Games as well as multiple characters across the Dragon Age and Baldur’s Gate series. He is also known for performing in a number of improv shows, including the Canadian Comedy Award-winning soap opera Die-Nasty.

New at the Canadian Game Awards for 2026

Eh! Game Expo 2025

This year the Canadian Game Awards will take place alongside XP Games Summit and Eh! Game Showcase. The XP Games Summit brings gaming companies and developers to Toronto, connecting international brands with Canadian studios and games. The summit takes place from May 21-22, 2026.

The Eh! Game Expo brings games, creators, and community together. The 3-day event features tournaments, free play, cosplayers, vendors and artists and takes place across a number of Canadian cities. Alongside the Canadian Game Awards, the Eh! Game Showcase allows developers to build hype before their game launches, get player feedback, and connect with other people in the gaming industry. The showcase also continues throughout the weekend at Anime North, taking place from May 22–24.
