Hogwarts Legacy really is a game that managed to capture what so many people like about the Harry Potter franchise, without really blowing the world away with unexpected gameplay. Underneath the stunning rendition of Hogwarts Castle, there are some nice mechanical features, and it’s a solid game to play through for hours on end.
The only potential real weakness that it has is the game world, which does leave a little to be desired once you leave the castle grounds. Fortunately, the game’s immense modding community is on hand to fill in the gaps, and they have done that pretty spectacularly over the last year or more.
Over on Nexus Mods, you should be able to find the download page for the Azkaban mod, which transports players to the famously bleak prison if they cast any of the unforgivable curses. That actually makes a lot more sense within the existing lore, and it’s a ton of fun for those who are looking for something totally different to play.
Over on YouTube, the channel RetroRaconteur uploaded a playthrough of the mod where they attempted an escape from the prison, and it’s safe to say that fans loved what they saw.
“The rooftop dodging the Dementors is always nail biting for me. Really glad it is a challenge to escape and that the aurors are tough,” one comment read.
While another added, “Second! I’m trying Hogwarts legacy for the first time tomorrow.”
If you own Hogwarts Legacy on PC and want to give it a try for yourself, all you need to do is download the file and install the Blueprint Apparate Modloader. From there, you only need to drop the archive files in your content folder for the game and you should be good to launch in and play.
The mod itself is actually quite impressive in its execution, essentially serving as a pseudo-wanted system that the game never had. Use an unforgivable curse in front of a civilian and they will report you to the Ministry of Magic. After that, they will hunt you down and try to send you to Azkaban, where the fun really begins.
Development on the sequel is now well underway, with Avalanche Studios and Portkey Games working flat out to get the game into players’ hands as soon as possible. It will likely be a very different Hogwarts Legacy to the first game as well, with Warner Bros. confirming that it will be closely tied to the upcoming HBO adaptation, which follows the books very specifically.
