With Hogwarts Legacy going on to become 2023’s best-selling game, it is no wonder that fans are excited about the sequel, which went into development not long after the launch of the first Harry Potter-inspired RPG. Developed by Avalanche Software and based on the beloved fantasy series, yet taking place over a century before the events of the hit movie and book series, Hogwarts Legacy allows players to create their very own witch or wizard and become a fully-fledged student at Hogwarts.

However, despite its praise, fans were left disappointed when Avalanche Software added no post-game content to the game, such as any DLC or expansions. With just the addition of a Photo Mode and a brief summer update introducing some cosmetics, Hogwarts Legacy has no extra quests and missions to take part in once you have finished the base game.

That being said, with confirmation that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is officially in development, fans are hoping that Avalanche Software learns from its mistakes and offers more bang for our buck in the sequel. That being said, when can we expect this highly anticipated Hogwarts Legacy 2?

Well, with the news that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is expected to “coincide” with the launch of the upcoming Harry Potter television series by HBO, it would make sense that the video game sequel would also launch in 2027 at the same time as the show. However, that would be a very quick launch, if it were true, leaving only four years between entries.

At the time of writing, a release date for Hogwarts Legacy 2 has not been confirmed, but speculation over its release window has been rife over on Reddit, with multiple sub-Reddits offering major discussions over the date.

On r/HogwartsLegacyGaming, one user shared, “According to the game developers, they stated that Hogwarts Legacy 2 will be released in 2027 or 2028. Fingers crossed that it’s early 2027.”

To which one comment read, “Just from the fact that all the major game companies dropped their stuff across the various shows this weekend and nothing of Hogwarts Legacy came up, I highly doubt it’ll be early 2027. There’s no actual official statement from the devs. I’m more suspecting late 2027 at the earliest, or 2028 as the likely release window.”

This corresponds with another comment made over on r/HarryPotterGame, reading, “WBGames leadership recently teased the 2027-2028 window for the return to their biggest franchises, so that probably means HL2 release window. I’m hopeful we can see a first teaser for the sequel before the end of this year.”

With Warner Bros. Games keeping radio silent when it comes to the launch of Hogwarts Legacy 2, it remains to be seen when we can expect the highly anticipated sequel. However, with fans waiting with bated breath, it could not come soon enough.
