Southampton have rejected a €25 million offer from Benfica for Taylor Harwood-Bellis, with the player remaining at the centre of a possible transfer discussion between the clubs.
According to a report from OneFootball on August 20, Benfica made the bid as they look to secure a deal, but Southampton have decided not to accept the proposal. The rejection does not necessarily end the matter, with talks understood to be capable of restarting if the interested club returns with improved terms.
For Southampton, turning down the offer sends a clear message that the current valuation has not been met. A bid of €25 million represents a significant approach, but the club’s decision suggests they are prepared to hold firm unless the structure or size of the package changes.
Benfica’s next move will now be important. They could decide to test Southampton’s stance again, adjust the financial terms, or move on to other targets. At this stage, the key point is that the initial proposal has been refused, but the possibility of renewed negotiations remains open.
Harwood-Bellis’ situation is therefore one to watch closely over the coming days. Southampton are under no obligation to sell on the basis of the rejected bid, while Benfica must decide how far they are willing to go to keep the move alive.
No agreement is in place, and there is no indication from the supplied report that a transfer is close. However, with Benfica having already shown concrete interest through a formal offer, the story may develop quickly if discussions resume and a revised bid is put forward.
