Guy Ritchie’s New R-Rated Spy Thriller With Henry Cavill Officially Passes Explosive Streaming Milestone

Henry Cavill‘s new spy thriller directed by Guy Ritchie and with a stellar cast has now hit a major streaming milestone that is a testament to its enduring success after a disappointing theatrical run. Cavill’s biggest roles are that of Superman in the DCEU movie timeline and Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher for three seasons. However, he has also long been tied to the spy genre. The actor got close to being cast as James Bond back when Daniel Craig was picked for the role, and Cavill remains a fan-favorite choice even now, decades later as a new Bond is being cast.

In the spy genre, Cavill has also appeared in movies like the recent Argylle and 2015’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E. The latter was directed by Ritchie, and had Cavill portray Napoleon Solo, a James Bond-esque character, being a suave spy, opposite Armie Hammer’s Illya Kuryakin. The spy movie marked the first collaboration between Cavill and Ritchie, with the duo recently reuniting for 2024’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which also featured major stars like Reacher‘s Alan Ritchson and Young Sherlock‘s Hero Fiennes Tiffin, and 2026’s In the Grey, which sees Jake Gyllenhaal co-star and has passed a colossal streaming milestone.

Cavill & Ritchie’s In The Grey Has Just Crossed Its First Epic Streaming Milestone

Ritchie’s In The Grey has crossed 100 days trending on Amazon VOD’s Top 25 Movies chart in the United States. This is a massive update for the spy thriller, as Cavill’s latest foray into the genre did not have a fantastic box office run. After its debut in theaters on May 15, In The Grey went on to gross just $27.8 million around the world on a reported budget of $70 million (via Forbes), making it a box office bomb. Now, the R-rated spy thriller led by Cavill and Gyllenhaal has cemented itself as a winning effort on Amazon VOD.

In The Grey‘s new milestone makes it one of the longest-running hits on Amazon VOD’s United States chart. Ritchie’s new movie is only surpassed by three other films in terms of how long it has trended on the chart. Those movies are Chris Pratt’s animated video game adaptation The Super Mario Galaxy Movie at 105 days, 2025’s Dracula directed by Taken‘s Luc Besson at 131 days, and Sydney Sweeney’s R-rated psychological thriller The Housemaid at a whopping 219 days. At the time of writing, In The Grey is trying to hang on to the chart, currently ranking #24 out of 25 movies.

Cavill & Amazon Have A Bright Future Together

In The Grey‘s continued success on Amazon VOD is a great sign of just how exciting Cavill’s new partnership with the company could be for both of them going forward. After leading Netflix’s The Witcher for three seasons, Cavill is now set to develop and star in several Warhammer 40,000 movies and TV shows for Prime Video. Cavill is going to star in a live-action Warhammer 40,000 series being written by modern horror icon Mike Flanagan for the streamer, as recently revealed by Games Workshop in its annual report. In The Grey‘s new streaming milestone bodes well for that franchise’s future.
