GTA 6 Post-Launch Plans And Online Future Officially Confirmed

The upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto VI is going to be one of the biggest game launches of all-time, with millions of copies likely to sell in the game’s earliest throes. That will undoubtedly be a huge moment for Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive, as the result of years of work finally comes to fruition.

That said, it will be easy at that point to forget just how much it took to get there, with thousands of employees sinking their time and effort into the final product to make it as impressive as possible. In turn, that leads us to the uncomfortable question of what happens to the workforce when all is said and done, but we do have some clarification from those in power.

As first reported by Rockstar Intel, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick recently sat down with The Game Business to speak about the team who worked on the game. Now most of the development is said and done, it’s good news for those who have tried very hard to bring us a special and memorable experience.

When asked about whether we would see an exodus of staff in the run-up to or immediately after release, Zelnick shared some insights, saying, “We don’t see that in our company. We have a very low attrition rate at Rockstar. Take-Two’s overall attrition rate is about half that of the industry average. And we have a lot of work to do after the launch of GTA VI. I have no reason to believe that we’ll see any changes to the composition of the team here.”

Rockstar has historically had a bit of a patchy record with their team members when it comes to the development of another big game, with crunch in particular used to get projects across the line. Things have undoubtedly improved since then, so it’s nice to hear that there won’t be a major set of departures now GTA VI is nearly finished.

In the same interview, Zelnick also said that Rockstar, “have a lot of work to do after the launch of GTA VI,” which is more than likely an oblique reference to the fact that Online is going to be a huge focus after the initial single-player hit, so they will still need a huge team of developers and artists to keep that experience fresh for as long as possible.

Other than that, it’s simply a case of sitting tight and waiting to hear more about GTA VI pre-orders and the arrival of a potential third trailer, which should give us a much better look at the gameplay and what Rockstar have been cooking up over the last few years.
