Well, we can now officially say it: GTA 6 releases next month. After years of waiting, and multiple delays, Rockstar Games will finally release the long-awaited open-world game on November 19. You know, assuming it doesn’t get delayed again at the last minute. But that could never happen . . . right? Right.
GTA 6 will hit PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, but PC users are in for more of a wait. How long? We don’t know for sure yet, but Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive has given a bit of an update on the PC version of the game, as well as planned support for GTA Online.
When Is GTA 6 Coming To PC?
Anyone familiar with recent (relatively speaking) Rockstar Games releases won’t be surprised by the gap between console and PC launches. It was 19 months before GTA V made its way to PC, and 13 months before Red Dead Redemption 2 left consoles. Realistically, we’re probably waiting at least one year before GTA 6 hits PC, although Take-Two has suggested this may not be the case after all.
During a recent shareholder meeting, Take-Two had this to say: “The strategy of the company is, over time, generally speaking, to launch on any platform for which there’s a meaningful audience. But that isn’t always the case, and certainly if platforms were no longer viable, we would change that strategy. And I would note that the PC platform is becoming more and more important to our company over time.”
Are we to infer from this that GTA 6 for PC could release sooner rather than later? It might mean nothing much at all, especially since GTA 6 is absolutely going to hit a meaningful audience on consoles long before PC gets factored into the equation. With that said, specifically confirming that PC as a platform is becoming more important to Take-Two is curious indeed.
The company also confirmed that “GTA 6 is a single-player title and is due to release this November. We will continue to support GTA Online after GTA 6 release and beyond.” Obviously, we knew that first bit, but it’s interesting to see that GTA Online as we currently know it will still exist after GTA 6 launches. Exactly how the new version of GTA Online will integrate with GTA 6 and the current GTA Online remains to be seen, as Rockstar and Take-Two are clearly focused on getting the single-player game out the door first and foremost. One thing is for sure though, you can bet ten years from now we’ll still be writing about GTA 6 Online updates and speculating on when GTA 7 will finally release. It’s the circle of life.
