Prime Video has a new season of an action franchise coming to its platform in one month, and it might dethrone Reacher as Amazon’s biggest action thriller series. Reacher is one of the biggest streaming wins Prime has had, nearly surpassing The Boys in terms of popularity.
Reacher, based on Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels, stars Alan Ritchson as the titular action hero. Jack Reacher is a former military police officer who now offers his formidable services to whoever is most in need, drifting from town to town and taking down baddies wherever he goes.
The series has been renewed for a fifth season, and its first spinoff, Neagley, debuted on September 16, 2026. However, another action thriller show may be arriving to take its place on Amazon Prime. The Terminal List season 2 arrives on October 21, 2026, four years after the first season.
The Terminal List is based on Jack Carr’s 2018 novel of the same name, and season 2 is set to adapt parts of the second book in his James Reece series of books. Christ Pratt stars as Lieutenant Commander James Reece, a Navy SEAL who is ambushed on a covert mission and is one of only two survivors on his team.
Season 1 ended with Reece taking his bloody vengeance on the people who wronged him, but only earned a 42% on Rotten Tomatoes. The prequel series, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, was a marked improvement, and Prime Video will be hoping for more of the latter for its Reacher replacement.
The Terminal List Season 2 Has A Very Different Style From Reacher
Viewers should not expect the same style of storytelling in The Terminal List as they get in Reacher if they’re new to the franchise. Reacher is a very fun watch. The hulking Ritchson is almost playing a superhero, capable of some enormous feats of strength and spycraft.
The show is a bit tongue-in-cheek with this. It’s a pulpy, beat-em-up with confidence, humor, and dazzle, and is unafraid to make ridiculous decisions for the enjoyment factor. The Terminal List, on the other hand, is a violent, bleak series, with sometimes excessive amounts of blood and even more melodrama.
The Terminal List takes you on a ride, to be certain, and it’s not painful to watch, but the themes and storylines in the show are heavy. Reese’s quest for vengeance takes him to some dark places, and extends from even darker ones. It’s a show that lacks the warmth and sighs of relief of Reacher.
The Terminal List Season 2 Should Be A Big Improvement Over Season 1
While The Terminal List season 1 was a bit of a struggle, the prequel, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, was a huge improvement. That series has the same creative team as The Terminal List, so if they manage to improve the story once, they can certainly do it again with season 2.
The first season of The Terminal List was a particularly dark affair, and season 2 promises to be a bit less angry. There’s a globetrotting story at the heart of this next season, which should make the series feel less claustrophobic as well. With the lessons learned from Dark Wolf, The Terminal List season 2 is shaping up to be an impressive event.
