Fans react as Abishek Porel breaks down after smashing a brilliant century in Ranji Trophy 2026-27

Abishek Porel produced a brilliant innings on his return to competitive cricket, helping Bengal take control of their Elite Group C Ranji Trophy match against Delhi at the Bengal Cricket Academy Ground in Kalyani. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 149 off 228 deliveries, striking 17 fours and a six as Bengal piled up a massive first-innings total.

Porel’s knock came at a crucial stage after Bengal had reached 167/3. He joined Sudip Kumar Gharami in the middle, and the pair took the game away from Delhi with a substantial partnership. Their performances helped Bengal move into a commanding position, with fans having plenty to discuss following Porel’s impressive return.

Abishek Porel and Sudip Kumar Gharami put Bengal in control

Porel displayed a fine mix of patience and aggression throughout his innings. Rather than allowing Delhi’s bowlers to settle, he kept the scoreboard moving with well-timed strokes and attacked both the pace and spin options. At the other end, Gharami played the anchor’s role to perfection. He scored 133 off 235 deliveries, hitting 19 boundaries, as the pair added 199 runs for the fourth wicket.

Gharami’s century was his third consecutive first-class hundred at the Kalyani venue, making the partnership even more significant for Bengal. Porel eventually fell for 149, but his contribution had already put Bengal firmly on top. Sumanta Gupta added further momentum with a quick 50 off 62 balls, helping the hosts reach 423/7 in 110 overs and establish a 183-run first-innings lead.

Mohammed Shami leads Bengal’s bowling effort against Delhi

Bengal had laid the foundation for their dominant position with an impressive bowling display in the first innings. Delhi were dismissed for 240 in 77.3 overs after struggling to build substantial partnerships against a disciplined attack. Mohammed Shami was the standout bowler, returning figures of 4/30 in 17.3 overs, including nine maidens. Aamir Gani also made an important contribution with three wickets for 45 runs, while Akash Deep picked up two wickets.

For Delhi, Hrithik Shokeen top-scored with 56 off 98 balls, while Ayush Sumit Doseja contributed 45 off 92 deliveries. However, their efforts were not enough to prevent Bengal from taking a substantial lead. With Bengal already 183 runs ahead and three wickets still in hand, the hosts are in a strong position to dictate the remainder of the contest. Porel’s century, alongside Gharami’s hundred and Shami’s four-wicket haul, has given Bengal plenty of reasons to be pleased with their performance.
