Fans go crazy as Dewald Brevis smashes second fastest century for South Africa in AUS vs SA 2nd T20I

The second T20I between Australia and South Africa at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin witnessed a batting masterclass from young South African star Dewald Brevis. Chasing quick runs and playing with confidence, Brevis unleashed his full range of strokes to reach a stunning hundred — the second fastest in South Africa’s T20I history.

Facing Ben Dwarshuis, Brevis pulled a short delivery to the fine leg fence to bring up the milestone in style. The moment was marked by pure emotion as he removed his helmet, looked skyward, and soaked in the applause from the crowd and his teammates.

Here’s how Dewald Brevis built his innings

Brevis began his innings cautiously, taking his time to settle into the conditions before launching a fierce counterattack. Once set, the 21-year-old became unstoppable, punishing loose deliveries and finding the gaps with precision. He was given a lifeline after being dropped midway through his innings — a chance Australia would go on to regret as the youngster made them pay heavily.

At the other end, Tristan Stubbs played the perfect supporting role, walking up to congratulate Brevis when the landmark was achieved. The partnership placed South Africa in a commanding position heading into the final overs.

Fastest T20I centuries for South Africa

Brevis’ whirlwind hundred came off just 41 balls, placing him second on South Africa’s all-time fastest T20I century list. The only man ahead of him remains David Miller, who reached the mark in just 35 balls against Bangladesh in 2017. Quinton de Kock holds the third spot, having scored a 43-ball ton against the West Indies in 2023.
