Fans erupt as Shai Hope powers West Indies to record chase against India in 2nd T20I

West Indies produced a remarkable batting performance to defeat India by six wickets in the second T20I at Ranchi on October 10. Chasing a daunting target of 250, the visitors reached 252/4, completing their highest successful run chase in T20 internationals and recording the highest successful T20I chase against India.

Shai Hope led the charge with an unbeaten 102 off just 45 deliveries, while Sherfane Rutherford delivered a blistering knock of 84 from 37 balls. Their partnership transformed the contest after West Indies lost three wickets inside the powerplay, leaving Indian fans stunned by the visitors’ extraordinary comeback.

Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford power West Indies to historic win

India posted 249/5 after Sanju Samson smashed 82 off 41 balls, while Tilak Varma contributed 44. The middle order added further momentum, but Roston Chase’s impressive spell of 3/24 helped prevent India from pushing the total even higher. West Indies initially struggled in the chase as Mayank Yadav claimed three wickets, reducing the visitors to 58/3. However, Rutherford joined Hope and turned the game around with a stunning counterattack.

The pair added 120 runs, with Rutherford striking seven fours and seven sixes before Kuldeep Yadav finally dismissed him. Hope continued to dominate after Rutherford’s departure, receiving valuable support from Romario Shepherd, who scored 34 off just 13 deliveries. The West Indies captain eventually completed the chase with an unbeaten century, sealing a memorable victory with an over to spare.

West Indies’ stunning chase leaves fans amazed

The result was particularly striking given India’s imposing total and West Indies’ early setbacks. Hope’s composure and Rutherford’s aggressive strokeplay helped the visitors maintain the required scoring rate, while India’s inability to break the partnership proved costly.

The victory also extended West Indies’ impressive run of successful chases during their international tour. Their ability to score 204 runs through boundaries alone underlined the scale of their batting performance and gave fans plenty to discuss after the thrilling contest.
