After winning the toss, the West Indies elected to bowl first, hoping to put pressure on India’s batting lineup. However, the hosts responded with an aggressive approach, led by Abhishek, who smashed 69 runs off just 30 deliveries. His innings featured six fours and five sixes, providing India with the momentum needed to build a formidable total.

Ishan Kishan also made a valuable contribution, scoring 37 off 18 balls with six boundaries and a six. The pair ensured India maintained an impressive scoring rate during the early stages of the innings. However, the West Indies fought back through timely wickets. Sanju Samson managed just three runs, while Shreyas Iyer departed for one. Tilak Varma added 28 off 16 deliveries, keeping the scoring rate healthy as India looked to accelerate further.

Dhir contributed 10 off five balls, while Nitish Kumar Reddy scored 21 off 14 deliveries. Axar Patel added 20 runs from 14 balls, and Arshdeep Singh chipped in with 11. Prince Yadav provided a late flourish with 13 off six deliveries as India were bowled out for 223 in 20 overs.

West Indies fight back through Kamil Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer

Chasing 224 for victory, the West Indies needed a strong start but lost captain Shai Hope for five runs. Kamil Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer then attempted to rebuild the innings with aggressive strokeplay, keeping the visitors in contention during the middle overs.

Pooran scored 42 off 27 deliveries, including three fours and three sixes, while Hetmyer contributed 43 from 26 balls with six fours and two sixes. Their efforts helped the West Indies maintain pressure on the Indian bowlers, although the required run rate continued to demand attacking cricket.

Rovman Powell could manage only five runs before Sherfane Rutherford added 32 off 20 deliveries. Quentin Sampson also played a useful knock of 21 from 15 balls, but India continued to strike at important moments to prevent the visitors from gaining complete control of the chase.

The West Indies still had hope when Springer launched a late counterattack. He smashed 35 runs from just 11 deliveries, including two fours and four sixes, bringing the required total within reach during the closing stages. However, his aggressive innings could not carry the visitors over the line.
