Fallout 4 Official August 2026 Update Comes With A Warning From Bethesda

As frustrating as it is that we haven’t had another game in the series yet, it is worth marveling at just how much longevity Fallout 4 has enjoyed for players. The release of the game on other platforms and via different editions certainly helped with that, but it’s testament to just how much people love the franchise, that they’re continuing to log in and play it all these years later.

Happily, Bethesda has also been pretty consistent about updating the game for more modern systems, as well as adding new content in conjunction with the community via the Creation Club, which remains controversial for its monetization practices. Now, the latest of those patches is about to go live, but it does come with a warning that you might want to be aware of.

Over on Twitter/X, the official Bethesda Game Studios profile shared a post confirming that a new patch for Fallout 4 is on the way, but also warning that you might want to make some preparations for its arrival:

“On Tuesday, August 18th, a patch will be coming to Fallout 4 focusing on general Creations improvements. As a precaution, prior to these updates we encourage players to log into your game save if you haven’t done so in a while or manually save your load order. Once your load order is saved, you’ll be able to re-download your entire Creations list at once when the update is live. Additionally, we are also working on a Skyrim update with details to come soon.”

You might remember that the release of the Anniversary Edition of Fallout 4 had all sorts of unintended consequences for players, who found that everything from their load orders, to existing mods, and even full save files had been compromised by the accompanying update.

The bigger concern here might actually be Skyrim, which has been in a relatively relaxed state in recent years. Players of the game have modlists in the thousands at this point, and a new patch really could wreak havoc with setups that people have spent literal years perfecting, to create the game they have always wanted.

In terms of new releases, we are still years away from Fallout 5. That said, the remasters/remakes of Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 3 should drop a lot sooner than that, so hopefully that’ll give us plenty to do while we wait to find out where the series is going next.
