Chelsea’s latest signing, Emiliano Martinez, could make his Premier League debut against his former club Arsenal next weekend.
The Argentine recently made the switch to the Blues from Aston Villa in a deal worth £7.5 million. The goalkeeper underwent his medical yesterday before signing his contract, and could be introduced to the fans tomorrow.
Martinez was not registered on time to face Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge, but the World Cup winner will certainly be in the matchday squad when the Blues take on the Gunners in a much-awaited London derby at the Emirates Stadium.
Robert Sanchez remains the Blues’ first-choice goalkeeper, but his position could be under immense scrutiny tomorrow following another blunder during the 3-2 Premier League win over Fulham on the road.
The Spaniard’s performance could directly affect manager Xabi Alonso‘s selection. If he were to struggle, it could pave the way for Martinez’s maiden Blues appearance against the league holders. The 33-year-old will no doubt welcome such a prospect.
