Emi Martinez officially set to complete his Chelsea switch

Emiliano Martinez is set to complete a blockbuster move to Chelsea, according to David Ornstein.

In what has become a quick moving saga over the past 72 hours, the Argentinian international is officially set to arrive at Stamford Bridge on Friday to complete his medical.

Continuously linked with a move away from the Midlands over the past year, Ornstein reported on Thursday that the Aston Villa hierarchy have agreed a £7.5million fee.

With Unai Emery’s men making it clear to Martinez and his representatives this summer that they would be willing to allow the World Cup-winner to leave the club, Chelsea have acted fast in order to agree a deal.

Completely omitted from Villa’s 4-0 drumming away at Brighton last weekend, the 33-year-old is set to put pen to paper on a two-year deal in west London and has the option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.

With the one-time Arsenal goalkeeper giving his priority to a return to English capital, Martinez will underdog his medical over the next 24 hours and could be available for Chelsea’s trip to the Amex on Sunday afternoon.

Watching Villa break the bank this month following the arrival of Japanese shot-stopper Zion Suzuki for a fee reportedly in the region of £30million, the reigning Europa League champions were hoping to get Martinez off their wage bill.

Martinez’s imminent arrival at Stamford Bridge is the latest in a series of deals between the two clubs this summer.

With England international Morgan Rogers completing a club-record £117million move to west London last month, Alejandro Garnacho moved in the opposite direction in a separate deal.

Likewise, Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported this week that Nicolas Jackson is on the verge of completing a permanent switch to Villa Park in a deal that could be valued as much as £65million.
