Eagles soar to Europa League victory

Crystal Palace kicked off their Europa League campaign with a routine home win against Lech Poznan.

Last year’s Conference League winners are old hands now at Thursday night football and were far too strong for their Polish opposition.

Lech may have qualified for major European competition in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1982-83 to 1985-86 but looked well short at Selhurst Park.

World Cup winner Yeremy Pino took just 10 minutes to open the scoring, latching on to a poor throw in and running clear to score.

Defender Chris Richards made it two with a thumping header fom an Adam Wharton corner, before Jorgen Strand Larsenwrapped up the win before half-time from the spot.

There was a flashpoint for Palace after the break as Ismaila Sarr made his first appearance of the campaign.

Following the late collapse of a proposed move to Liverpool on deadline day, the winger was met with a mixed reception upon entering the fray, with scattered boos audible among the general applause.

Eddie Nketiah also came off the bench and was able to find a late fourth after Radoslaw Murawski had been sent off and cap a fine week in the Europa League for English sides.
