Dragon Ball New Opening Movie And Theme Song Released As New Era Begins

Whichever particular part of the Dragon Ball franchise you like the most, it’s safe to say that almost every adaptation and spin-off has a great musical score and accompanying animation. Whether it’s the wonders of the OG DBZ theme Cha-La Head-Cha-La that still keeps you gripped to this day, or the more recent pop ballad stylings of Dragon Ball GT’s Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku, the themes really have become an intrinsic part of being a fan.

As such, any time there is a new release that’s tied to the franchise, the community expects those in charge of the music (and whatever animation might accompany it) to deliver. Now, the latest of those is about to go live, and oh boy, have they really delivered in spades for fans who were expecting big things.

Over on Twitter/X, the user SLO shared a video which features the new Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO opening movie and theme song (also called ZERO), composed and sung by the legendary anime franchise musician Hironobu Kageyama. Honestly, just having Kageyama do it really does guarantee it’s going to be great, but even by his own standards, it’s pretty exceptional.

Somehow, it’s also his first original musical contribution to the Dragon Ball series in 18 years, so that makes it a fairly momentous moment in itself, and fans who watched were keen to share their delight in the responses.

“Finally, a proper unique opening!! I was gutted they used the ToP opening song at first,” one comment read.

While another added, “New Hironobu Kageyama song for DB finally. The last one was for Raging Blast 2. WE MISSED YOU GOAT. I was so excited when they announced this at Genkidamatsuri.”

“Holy f**k! That was a hundred times better than the original opening!” a third said.

That new opening went live into the game as part of a major update designed to pave the way for the new Super Limit-Breaking NEO DLC, which is set to launch on July 30. The latter is set to be the largest single content-drop in the history of the game, with 33 new characters being added to the roster, as well as the new Limit Breaker Journey Mode, four new Episode Battles, and four new paid stages.

If you haven’t played it yet as a fan of the Dragon Ball franchise, Sparking! Zero really is one of the better games around right now, and it’s arguably in as good a state as ever. If this new DLC pushes the game forward as much as it looks like it might, there really isn’t a better time to get involved.
