Dragon Ball Fans Are Seriously Unhappy With Goku’s Latest Redesign

Dragon Ball has withstood the test of time to become one of the most legendary shonen anime properties ever. Much of that is due to the standout character designs by the late, famed artist Akira Toriyama, and his impact is still felt today.

While there was once just a manga, fans now enjoy the Dragon Ball universe across a variety of media, including TV shows, theatricalreleases, and, of course, video games. It’s the latter that a lot of unique concepts in the Dragon Ball universe are shown off, and for that reason, they get a lot of love from fans.

One recent change is really shaking fans up over on X, though. While countless Goku forms and designs often warrant the most scrutiny, we’re back at it again.

Goku poses in front of Dragon Ball Z’s biggest villains

The introduction of Goku Ultra Supervillain (Quelled) in Dragon Ball XenoVerse 2 isn’t going down as well as Bandai Namco had hoped. Despite being in operation for 10 years, this seems to be the grand finale of the game, and not everyone is loving it.

Lore-wise, there is some significance here. This is essentially the Ultra Supervillain form mixed with Perfected Ultra Instinct, and very much unique to XenoVerse 2. He has Perfected Ultra Instinct hair, but there are also crystals adorning part of his body, which is one of the big points of contention.

So far, people aren’t big fans: “I wanted to be super hyped for this DLC but it’s tough, this DLC is the one that should be packed with content compared to the first one from the Future Saga. As far as I’m concerned you guys should redo it entirely, this is a disrespect to the XenoVerse community that stuck with the game until the end supporting it.”

Some fans are a little more passionate, calling it an unfitting end for a game that lasted roughly a decade: “Worst rush and lazy climax DLC ever for Xenoverse 2. 10 years for only two reskins character with one barely having different moveset while they same moves only colored purple.”

A few folks are even worried about Xenoverse 3‘s lineup as a result of this choice: “I’m not gonna lie The Xenoverse franchise has made it blatantly clear that we can’t play the main villains of each game if Xenoverse 3 doesn’t fix this I’m gonna be very disappointed.”

No matter what you think of Dragon Ball XenoVerse, there’s more on the way. The third game is in development and set for 2027, with a whole lot of surprises and some of the last character designs by Akira Toriyama.
