Here’s something a lot of women don’t know: many department stores offer a personal stylist for free. Nordstrom’s styling service has no fee and no minimum purchase. You can book an in-store appointment, request a look online (“Request a Look”), or use Nordstrom To You for at-home styling if you live within about 15 miles of select stores (Nordstrom).
As a former stylist, here’s the part the brochure skips. The stylist is excellent at pulling from that store’s inventory. That’s the job. She won’t send you to Amazon for the $38 version of the blazer, and she won’t mix in the Target tee that would look just as good.
Good for: special events, trying on in person, tailoring, and anyone who likes the fitting-room experience.
Not great for: tight budgets, rural zip codes, or women who dread spending a Saturday in a fitting room.
Autum’s take: If you live near a Nordstrom and have a real event coming up, book the free appointment. Just go in knowing your budget, and say it out loud first.
Option 4: Virtual Personal Shoppers
A virtual personal shopper is a real person who shops for you, online, based on what you tell them. You never leave the couch. There are three main versions:
Subscription boxes like Stitch Fix charge a $20 styling fee that’s credited toward anything you keep (Stitch Fix). A stylist picks the items, but only from that company’s inventory.
Independent personal shoppers usually charge by the hour. Pricing guides put them around $120–$200 an hour (Thumbtack). Experienced stylists often charge $350+ an hour, and full packages can run well over $1,000 (Who What Wear).
Blogger-led services like mine sit in between: a flat price, any store, and someone who already knows how women like you shop.
How Shop With Autum works
Shop With Autum is a one-time personal shopping session. You tell me exactly what you need, and I find it.
Book the session on my shop page.
Fill out the intake form. Sizes, budget, deadline, and a detailed list of what you don’t like: sleeveless, stripes, anything that clings to the belly, low necklines. The more specific, the better the picks.
Get 8–10 hand-picked items in 3–5 business days, with direct links, across any retailer that fits your budget.
To be clear about what this is: it’s shopping only. I don’t style the pieces into outfits, and revisions aren’t included, which is why the intake form asks so many questions. If you want the full styled treatment, that’s the Personalized Lookbook.
Good for: a specific need (a wedding-guest dress, jeans that fit a size 16 pear shape, a work wardrobe refresh) and women who know their style but don’t have time to hunt.
Not great for: anyone who wants to try everything on with a stylist in the room.
