Difficult to explain Nottingham Forest loss in Europa League

Nottingham Forest manager Vitor Pereira admitted it was “difficult to explain” his side’s defeat in the Europa League after they failed to convert a host of chances against FC Midtjylland.

Forest created numerous opportunities throughout the match but were unable to find the net, while Midtjylland were far more clinical in front of goal and take a 1-0 lead back to Denmark for the return leg.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Pereira said the result did not reflect the overall balance of play.

“It is difficult to explain. We created so many chances to score. Even if we were to draw, it would not have been fair. They had two chances, and they scored. But we had enough time and the game was there. We had the quality to win.

“We did everything we could to score. We were just missing the goals. It is frustrating that we did not score. But I am happy with my players and the supporters and we will try to keep the spirits and prepare for our next games.”

The Forest boss also pointed to the difficult conditions during the match, suggesting heavy rain played a role in preventing his team from capitalising on their chances.

“Even the rain played against us! We created good dynamics and chances to score, but the rain came and it was difficult. We will keep the spirits and go next time with the mentality to win the game.

“Now is time to rest and recover and then compete for three points against Fulham. We will be ready in three days.”
