Fans of Diablo or those just getting into it will absolutely want to play the critically acclaimed fourth mainline entry, Diablo 4. The game, which has gone on to receive numerous updates and DLC, proved to be a smash hit when it launched in 2023 and has gone on to garner even more acclaim from fans and critics alike. While it isn’t without its flaws, Diablo 4 is a great entry point for newcomers and a proven fan-favorite among even the most dogmatic of devotees.

Of course, for those of you who’ve never played it, the hefty price tag attached to it may be an understandable barrier to entry. While it boasts potentially hundreds of hours of content, it is never worth impulsively buying a $50 game on a whim, even if it looks vaguely interesting. Fortunately, Diablo 4 is going completely free-to-play, allowing everyone the opportunity to give it a whirl and see if it’s worth paying for. The only caveat is that the free-to-play period is almost over already.

With Diablo 5 now officially announced, it makes sense that newcomers to the franchise and returning fans would want to jump into its predecessor. The latest BlizzCon got everyone talking about the iconic franchise and excited about its future, and that hype, as always, has thrown a few new fans over to their digital storefront of choice to check out the back catalog. Fortunately, Diablo 4 is great and worth checking out, if only for a few hours.

Even more fortunate is that, as aforementioned, Diablo 4 is free-to-play on Steam right now. This isn’t the same as when Blizzard hands out free Diablo 4 downloads to existing players. Rather, the entire game, its campaign, co-op, side content, classes, and more is available to access for free without any strings attached. Players can jump into the full game right now and play either alone or with friends without needing to own any existing Diablo games or fulfill any other limiting criteria.

The only caveat is, as previously mentioned, the free-to-play period is finishing very soon. In fact, you only have 24 hours to download and play Diablo 4 for free before your access is revoked, and you’ll need to pay to continue. The free trial, which has been running for a few days already, officially ends on September 21, 2026, leaving fans not much time to get stuck in. Fortunately, even a quick play session should be enough time to decide whether it is worth it for them.

Diablo 4 is also currently discounted. Until September 24, you can pick up Diablo 4 for $12.49, which is 75% off its usual $49.99 price. It’ll be up to you whether that is worth it, but if you do take the plunge, you’ll be getting a roughly 50-hour experience if you do just the main story and side content with one character. Of course, there’s plenty of replay value to be found in creating new characters, trying new classes, and playing with friends, all of which makes Diablo 4 the critically acclaimed game it is.
