Mr. Freeze is one of the many Batman villains who appear in an exciting Dark Knight release, and the character looks perfect based on his history in Batman adaptations, as well as the tone of the project. Batman is one of DC‘s darkest heroes, if not the darkest. Bruce Wayne is known for his brooding persona, which has led to the best Batman movies.
At times, adaptations have tried to run away from that, leading to vibrant interpretations of heroes and villains, not all of which landed as well as expected. In terms of villains, Batman has the best Rogues’ Galleries in the comics, with foes like the Joker, Harley Quinn, Bane, and more becoming more well-known worldwide than even some of DC’s best heroes.
That is how important Batman and his corner of the larger franchise are for DC’s slate of releases. Villains like the Joker, in an Elseworlds franchise, and Clayface, in the new DC Universe, have even led solo movies. However, the most fun comes when Batman himself faces off against his villains, and in projects where many of them appear at once.
With that in mind, the animated Bat-Fam, which has all 10 of its season 1 episodes available on Prime Video, emerges as one of the hero’s most interesting recent releases. One of the many Batman villains to appear in the DC show is Mr. Freeze, who was rumored to appear in Robert Pattinson’s The Batman — Part II before Two-Face gained strength.
DC Has Revealed What Bat-Fam’s Mr. Freeze Looks Like
In Bat-Fam, Mr. Freeze is not a main villain. While the character does face off against the Dark Knight, the animated Batman series shines a light on other foes, like Mad Hatter, Killer Croc, Solomon Grundy, and more. Ra’s al Ghul and Man-Bat also play special roles, as they are not villains in the show, but rather members of the Bat-Family, as is a child version of Volcana.
Still, Mr. Freeze plays a fun role in the show, and he does not change sides, firmly staying against the Dark Knight. Voiced by Dolph Adomian, Mr. Freeze appears in Bat-Fam season 1, episode 9, “April Fools! Part 1.” Wearing a giant metal suit with red goggles, a yellow/green Hawaaiian shirt with purple flowers, a glass helmet, and a small heat on top of his blue skin, Mr. Freeze looks rather unique in the recent animated Batman series.
As expected, Mr. Freeze fights Batman in his new DC appearance. However, it is not much of a confrontation, as he fails to take down the Dark Knight despite being able to freeze Batman, Little Batman (Damian Wayne), and Bright (Alicia Pennyworth) in place initially. Using her fire powers, Volcana breaks the rest of the Bat-Family loose, with Damian later securing the villain.
How Bat-Fam’s Mr. Freeze Compares To Other Versions Of The DC Villain?
Bat-Fam‘s Mr. Freeze dons a design that is far too comedic and not menacing enough for most live-action Batman releases. If the character were truly to appear in The Batman — Part II or the planned threequel, then he would most likely look different from the Mr. Freeze of the Prime Video series. That said, this animated version of the character is close in tone to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze from the controversial Batman & Robin.
First, they have similar, noteworthy accents. Additionally, both characters donned intricate metal suits and had blue skin. Their personalities are also a near-match. That said, Bat-Fam‘s use of a Hawaiian shirt and hat made the whole look feel much warmer than Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze ever looked in the live-action Batman movie. The animated series design also features a bulkier metal armor for the character, while the movie version was sleeker. Both looks fit their respective Batman projects, which are close in tone, but with a difference in execution.
