Cyberpunk 2077 Is Getting So Much New Free Content This Year

After a notoriously rocky start to life out in the wild, developer CD Projekt Red did an unbelievable job turning the proverbial ship around when it came to Cyberpunk 2077. The sci-fi epic is comfortably one of the best RPGs of the last decade or more, and for many, it may well have a solid contention to be one of the greatest of all time.

That said, the unfortunate reality remains that it was very much a case of one and done with major DLC for the game, and that leaves a lot of players who have played it for hundreds of hours without a ton to do. PC players have a brilliant way out of this little conundrum though, and that’s to rely on the stellar work of Cyberpunk 2077‘s modding community, who continue to deliver brilliant experiences in spades.

Over on Nexus Mods, you can find a ton of new and upcoming releases that all have the potential of transforming your next run through the neon lights of Night City. Depending on what you’d like to do, there should be a little something for everyone, including over the last month, where we have picked out a few you might want to be aware of.

WEAVE – Equipment-EX Extension is one for those of you who are particularly fashion conscious. It’s no secret that when your wardrobe gets a little full, it’s a tricky element of the game to navigate. This fixes that, allowing the game to project a Visual Layer (outfit) over your Tactical Layer (gear), making sure you can always look as you please. It also makes it a lot easier to sort and filter your items.

Nova Optics allows you to customize exposure, bloom, vignette, chromatic aberration while driving in first-person. It makes the experience considerably less jarring, and a whole lot more immersive and realistic, with the game’s setting.

Up next is Immersion Patch – Cyberpunk Story Quest Fixes, which is arguably the most impressive and important of the bunch. This mod fixes a ton of very annoying bugs in the main quest, as well as in particularly notable side quests.

Lastly, for today is Combat Evolved, which considerably deepens the game’s faction system. The developer describes it as follows:

“Combat Evolved gives every faction a personality. 20 factions with unique combat profiles, fear systems, behavioral traits, and home-turf bravery, plus a dedicated profile for cyberpsychos. Scanning a faction member will give you their weaknesses and some of their strengths. There’s no textual readout, just icons to indicate what you might be going up against. Good luck, choom.”

It actually takes advantage of the system along better than Cyberpunk 2077 does in its base form, and you’ll absolutely want to get it downloaded if you’re looking for a whole new take on many of the foes you meet along the way.

Night City Is Always Worth Exploring

Even if you don’t decide to lean heavily into mods, Night City really is one of the most compelling settings in video games, and Cyberpunk 2077 holds up just as well today if you do decide to return. With the sequel now supposedly underway at CD Projekt Red, this is probably the best we can be doing in the meantime.
