Creature Commandos season 2 continues to move forward in production, and after months of little to no news, Sean Gunn has finally provided an update. In an interview on The Brandon Davis Show, Gunn offered more details about both the animated DC Universe series’s second season and the future of Maxwell Lord.

While showrunner Dean Lorey and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn have offered a few pieces of information over the course of its development, they have remained relatively vague. However, Gunn recently revealed that voice recording is underway for Creature Commandos season 2. He also revealed that both G.I. Robot and Weasel, the two characters he voices, will be in the upcoming episodes.
The update is another positive sign of how far production has progressed ahead of the show’s return. Creature Commandos was officially renewed, the hit animated series, for a second season in December 2024, before the first installment had finished its seven-episode run.
Gunn’s update was not limited to Creature Commandos. He also addressed the future of Maxwell Lord, confirming that his time playing the DC character is not finished. According to Gunn, he has permission to reveal that Lord will appear again in the DCU on multiple occasions. However, when asked if he would be in Creature Commandos season 2, the actor stated that he can’t disclose which projects will feature the villain or when he’ll show up again.
Gunn’s comments leave open several possibilities for Lord’s future in the DCU. While he doesn’t reveal whether he’ll appear in Creature Commandos season 2, his statements do confirm that DC Studios has additional plans for his version of the character somewhere down the line.
Creature Commandos is based on a DC Comics team of the same name made up of supernatural, robotic, and monster soldiers. Created by writer J. M. DeMatteis and artist Pat Broderick, the original iteration of the group debuted in Weird War Tales #93 in 1980. There is currently no official release date for Creature Commandos season 2 at the time of this article’s publication. However, it is expected to return in 2027.
