Chris Evans’ Captain America Resists Doctor Doom’s Magic In New Avengers: Doomsday Art

New Avengers: Doomsday fan art sets up a mighty battle.

Avengers: Doomsday is the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie that will finally put the two faces of the franchise back together. While Chris Evans returned to the MCU’s slate of releases in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, that came in the form of a cameo as a multiverse variant of the Fantastic Four’s Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch. As revealed by the first Avengers: Doomsday teaser, Evans will be back as Steve Rogers in the upcoming MCU movie, which will reunite him with Robert Downey Jr., now playing Doctor Doom, not Iron Man. That fight has become highly anticipated.

On Instagram, @rahalarts imagined what Evans’ Captain America fighting Downey’s Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday could look like.

Contrary to what the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer teased by having Steve Rogers put away his suit in a box, Evans’ Marvel character has his Captain America suit back on to fight Doctor Doom in the MCU fan art. Likewise, Downey’s new Marvel villain has his full armor on, complete with the signature green cloak and the imposing mask. As Captain America’s shield holds Doom back, green sparks fly from the villain’s fingers, teasing the magic skills Victor von Doom is known for.

At the moment, Downey has only appeared as Doctor Doom once, in a cameo role in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Even though his mask was off, as Doom wanted to show his face to Reed Richards and Sue Storm’s son, Franklin Richards, Downey’s face was not visible, making it impossible for fans to tell if the MCU’s Doctor Doom will have a scarred face like he does in the pages of Marvel Comics. That said, official details have been released over the past few months, including a description of what to expect from Doctor Doom once it is time to fight.

According to Disney, Downey’s Doctor Doom will be “a master of cutting-edge science and powerful magic” when he appears in Avengers: Doomsday. That teases a comics-accurate portrayal of the character, and one that would be very difficult for Evans’ Steve Rogers to hold back like he does in the MCU fan art. Sure, Captain America has many incredible feats of strength in the Marvel Studios franchise, even being able to hold back Thanos’ hand for a moment in Avengers: Infinity War, but going toe-to-toe with a magic-powered Doctor Doom might be a little above his weight class.

Still, the MCU has the perfect weapon to level the playing field. While Steve is unlikely to learn magic to rival Doom anytime soon, he will wield Mjolnir, Thor’s hammer, again in the 2026 MCU movie. That was revealed in the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer that was shown exclusively for attendees at CinemaCon 2026. With Mjolnir, Captain America gave Thanos a run for his money at the end of Avengers: Endgame, and he could likely do the same against Downey’s Doctor Doom. Hopefully, when Marvel releases the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer, there will be scenes between the two characters.
