Anselmino returns to Chelsea

Chelsea have triggered a clause to recall defender Aaron Anselmino from his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, according to journalist David Ornstein.

The Blues have explored the transfer market for a new centre-back this month and they recently entered talks with Rennes for Jeremy Jacquet.

The west London giants have offered around £45m for the 19-year-old defender, but Rennes are holding out for at least £61m to sell him.

This has hit an impasse in negotiations which has forced the Blues to recall Anselmino from his successful loan spell with Dortmund in Germany.

The 20-year-old Argentine made a good impression in the Bundesliga and he will now provide competition for places in the centre-back spots.

Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah are the nailed-on starters in central defence in the league, but there will be plenty of rotation elsewhere.

Anselmino could get some playing time in the Cup competitions and may also come on as a substitute in the league over the coming months.
