Chelsea could return for AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara during the winter transfer window.
The Blues were determined to land the Senegal international on deadline day after selling Enzo Fernandez.
Chelsea reached a verbal agreement with Monaco for his services, but the Ligue 1 club cancelled the deal at the final hurdle.
Monaco only wanted to sell one of Folarin Balogun or Camara and they were confident that the former was on his way out.
Everton were much fancied to sign the Arsenal graduate, but the transfer broke down on deadline day due to medical issues.
Chelsea were not pleased with Monaco’s surprise decision to block Camara’s transfer, but they could still return for him.
They have continued to maintain contact with the midfielder’s agents and could seek to land his signature at the turn of the year.
Chelsea were prepared to pay around £47m for Camara earlier this month and Monaco may want a higher transfer fee in January.
