Chelsea are reportedly eyeing a shock deal for Netherlands midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
The Blues parted ways with midfielder Enzo Fernandez on transfer deadline day and sought to sign Monaco ace Lamine Camara as a replacement.
However, a deal did not materialise before the deadline. The Senegalese underwent his medical, but Monaco pulled the plug on the transfer.
Chelsea were deeply disappointed by the incident and it is now reported that they are lining up a surprise swoop for free-agent Wijnaldum.
The ex-Premier League winner is a free agent after his release from Saudi giants Al-Ittifaq and has been linked with a possible return to England.
Chelsea have reportedly contacted the player’s entourage and a possible contract could be handed over the experienced Dutchman to join.
The Blues have already signed two experienced heads in Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck, and it is left to be seen whether Wijnaldum arrives.
Chelsea are currently without Moises Caicedo in midfield due to injury.
