Chelsea have confirmed the arrival of right-back Marco Palestra from Atalanta on a long-term contract.

Palestra had an impressive season on loan with Cagliari in Serie A last term.

He was initially touted to join Inter Milan, but the Blues beat them to his signature with a better financial offer.

Their proposal of around £45m plus add-ons were more beneficial to Atalanta and Palestra has now made the switch.

The Italian can operate as a right-back or right wing-back, and should suit the formation of new manager Xabi Alonso.

Meanwhile, his arrival could pave the way for the departure of Malo Gusto, who is on the radar of multiple clubs.

Manchester City are said to be interested in the Lyon graduate, while Atletico are likewise exploring a move.

Chelsea have set a staggering price tag of £75m, but they are likely to lower their fee if a formal approach comes by.

Gusto is presently with France at the World Cup.
