Brand New Day Box Office Passes Historic Milestone

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is swinging to new heights at the box office.

Before heading into its ongoing tenth weekend in theaters, the record-smashing Marvel Cinematic Universe movie was already the highest-grossing Spider-Man movie of all time, the highest-grossing solo superhero movie of all time, the highest-grossing Sony release of all time, the highest-grossing movie at the domestic box office, and the third highest-grossing movie of all time worldwide (behind only Avengers: Endgame and James Cameron’s Avatar). While it dropped to No. 7 on the domestic chart last weekend behind a raft of new releases, 2026’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day spent six consecutive weekends at No. 1 and eight in the Top 3.

Before getting his own solo film, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut by being recruited by Tony Stark to help in a massive superhero conflict. In which MCU film did Holland first appear as Spider-Man?

02

In Spider-Man: Homecoming, Peter faces a blue-collar salvage contractor who turned to arms dealing after being shut out of the Chitauri cleanup by Damage Control. Using an alien-tech wingsuit, he becomes one of Spider-Man’s most grounded villains. Who is he?

03

Tony Stark built Peter a high-tech suit loaded with features Peter didn’t even know about, including an AI assistant that helps him in combat, provides tactical analysis, and even gives dating advice. What name does Peter give this AI?

04

In Spider-Man: Far From Home, Peter encounters a seemingly heroic figure who claims to be from an alternate Earth, battling elemental creatures across Europe. In reality, he’s a disgruntled former Stark Industries employee using advanced holographic drones. What is his real name?

05

In one of the MCU’s most shocking mid-credits scenes, J. Jonah Jameson broadcasts doctored footage from Mysterio’s final moments that completely upends Peter Parker’s life. What does this broadcast reveal to the entire world?

06

With his identity exposed and his loved ones under threat, Peter seeks help from a powerful sorcerer to cast a spell that would make the world forget he is Spider-Man. Peter’s constant modifications to the spell cause it to fracture the multiverse. Which sorcerer casts this spell?

07

Throughout all three films, Peter’s loyal best friend serves as his “guy in the chair,” helping with tech support and keeping his secret. In No Way Home, this character even discovers he can open magical portals using a Sling Ring. Who is Peter’s best friend?

08

At the emotional climax of No Way Home, Peter makes an enormous personal sacrifice to save the multiverse. Doctor Strange completes the spell, and when it takes effect, Peter is left completely alone. What does the final spell do?

Per Sony Pictures Entertainment, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has now hit a cumulative global total of $2.506 billion, comprising $955 million from the domestic box office and an additional $1.551 billion from international markets. This sees it becoming the third movie in history to ever pass the $2.5 billion global milestone. It is the first to do so in seven years, after 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

Additionally, Peter Parker is officially the highest-grossing movie character in history with a cumulative $17.5 billion worldwide.

Although for a period it seemed like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day had the potential to surpass Endgame as the highest-grossing MCU movie of all time, it has slowed down enough that the prospect now seems highly unlikely. Additionally, the re-release Avengers Endgame: Encore has seen the 2019 movie’s lifetime total surge to the point that it has surpassed 2009’s Avatar as the highest-grossing movie of all time.

Below, see a breakdown of the current Top 5 movies of all time worldwide (not adjusted for inflation):

Rank

Title

Worldwide Box Office

#1

Avengers: Endgame (2019)

$2.925 billion

#2

Avatar (2009)

$2.924 billion

#3

Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026)

$2.506 billion

#4

Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)

$2.334 billion

#5

Ne Zha 2 (2025)

$2.271 billion

Regardless of its position relative to Avengers: Endgame, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day has accomplished a historic achievement with this milestone. The closest that any other movie has gotten to the $2.5 billion global milestone is the $2.334 billion that Avatar: The Way of Water earned in 2022, which is $165.5 million away from that milestone.

That’s an amount of money that many movies never even reach worldwide. In fact, major contemporary releases that have earned less than $165.5 million include the legacy sequel Freakier Friday ($153.2 million), the Jason Statham action hit The Beekeeper ($162.6 million), Martin Scorsese’s 10-time Oscar nominee Killers of the Flower Moon ($158.8 million), and the franchise-kickstarting Blumhouse horror movie The Black Phone ($161.4 million).

Additionally, the Spider-Man: Brand New Day box office has already cemented the movie as a hit. The movie reportedly had a huge price tag of $225 million, which may place its estimated break-even point somewhere around $562.5 million. However, by hitting this huge global milestone, it has earned back nearly four and a half times that number.

The true test of Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s mettle will come later this year. Avengers: Endgame became an all-time hit by being the culmination of the first three phases of the MCU, which is something that the new Spider-Man movie couldn’t quite compare to. However, it may be able to fend off competition from the upcoming MCU team-up Avengers: Doomsday, which is expected to perform well, but could fall short of Brand New Day if it lacks the same level of voracious audience retention.
