Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 8
The finale of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 has arrived, bringing with it a truly epic conclusion for Mayor Fisk’s vigilante war in New York City. However, it also features a pretty great collection of Easter eggs, MCU references, notable cameos, and some fun nods to the Netflix era of Marvel shows (where Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk’s rivalry first began).
Featuring equal amounts of payoff and set up for the MCU’s future with Daredevil: Born Again season 3, this new season finale is all kinds of epic as the conflict between the Man Without Fear and New York’s mayor comes to a major head. At the same time, some very fun connections can be found amid all the intense action and major consequences, as there’s a very clear effort to honor the legacy of Netflix’s original Daredevil series in this new iteration with Born Again. As such, that’s never been truer than in this newly released finale episode.
Overall, Daredevil: Born Again episode 8 is packed with cool details you might miss on a first watch. From Netflix-era nods to major MCU connections, here are the biggest Easter eggs, references, cameos, and hidden details we found in the finale of Daredevil: Born Again season 2.
16
The Southern Cross
A collection of four bright stars crucial to navigation and finding southern direction, “The Southern Cross” is a fitting name for this final episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, seeing as the first episode was titled “The Northern Star.”
15
Panna II Garden Indian Restaurant
The restaurant with all the string lights that Karen and Matt visit is not only the same one they go to in Netflix’s Daredevil, but it’s an actual real-life restaurant in New York’s East Village, Panna II Garden Indian Restaurant.
14
An Impostor Bullseye
While Mayor Fisk had one of his AVTF men dressed as Bullseye to pin an attack on Poindexter and reignite public support for the Safer Streets Act and Fisk’s war on vigilantes, this impostor is taken out by the real Bullseye himself, who apparently chose to stick around after protecting the governor in the previous episode (per Daredevil’s request).
Naturally, Bullseye taking down a Bullseye impostor is pretty ironic, considering Poindexter’s Daredevil season 3 debut in the Netflix era largely saw him posing as Daredevil per Fisk’s orders with the very similar goal of discrediting Daredevil and turning the public against him.
Additionally, it’s also worth mentioning that fairly recent Daredevil comics had an arc where Bullseye and multiple Bullseye clones began indiscriminately killing New York’s citizens from multiple rooftops via sniper fire, putting the entire city on lockdown for over a week.
13
“When I Was A Boy…”
Taking the witness stand himself during the second day of Karen Page’s trial, Wilson Fisk begins his testimony with “When I was a boy…“ a recurring opening line from Fisk that’s frequently been heard ever since his MCU debut way back in 2013 with the first season of Netflix’s Daredevil.
12
“I Am Daredevil”
Outing himself as Daredevil to the entire city, Matt Murdock wins the case with this major surprise reveal and sacrifice. Not only does this public reveal share DNA with Tony Stark’s admission that he was Iron Man at the end of the very first MCU movie, but there’s now a future opportunity for Matt Murdock to don his infamous “I’m Not Daredevil” sweater from the comics.
11
Cole North’s Redemption
Refusing to follow Officer Powell’s orders, Cole North chooses to quit his role as one of Fisk’s brutal enforcers, a first step of redemption mirroring the comics where North similarly worked for Fisk to hunt down vigilantes before eventually becoming one of Daredevil’s allies.
Will the same be true in the MCU with North eventually becoming an ally to Charlie Cox’s Daredevil? We’ll have to wait and see once we learn more about Daredevil season 3 in the coming months.
10
Shelia Serves The Mayor’s Office (Not Fisk)
Shelia picks her side in the finale episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, confirming her dedication not to Fisk, but to the mayor’s office itself. As such, this likely explains why Shelia gets tapped to become New York’s next mayor, something that was already teased in earlier episodes as well as in Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s first trailer, where Shelia is shown giving the Webslinger the key to the city (essentially confirming well before the finale that Fisk was likely going to be removed from office).
9
Hallways To The Max
Daredevil’s growing resistance finally reaches its peak following Karen’s trial, with several citizens joining Daredevil and his allies. Eventually, the resistance floods into the courthouse to try and bring Fisk down themselves.
As such, we see dual hallway scenes in this season finale (a staple from the previous Netflix era) as Fisk and Daredevil converge on each other. In one hallway, Fisk is shown brutally attacking his own citizens (many of whom are dressed in red and wearing homemade Daredevil masks). Meanwhile, Daredevil, Karen, Jessica Jones, and White Tiger are shown making their way through the other hallway and taking on Fisk’s remaining AVTF officers.
8
Grace & Mercy (Daredevil’s Core)
Rather than letting the resistance members continue to beat Fisk down and tear him apart, Daredevil gets them to back off, showing Kingpin a massive amount of grace and mercy even to his biggest rival of all time.
As such, it’s a powerful moment, one that calls back to Matt Murdock’s core as a hero and his belief that there is good and the change of redemption for even the darkest of souls. Not only does it connect with his comics-accurate Catholic upbringing and faith, but also to Foggy Nelson and the inspiring mercy Matt’s friend displayed when he was still alive.
7
Alias Investigations
In the aftermath of the battle with Fisk, we see Jessica Jones returning to none other than Alias Investigations, her old apartment/office, which had naturally been a prominent location in her own original Netflix series. Seeing as how earlier episodes confirmed that Jessica now lives in the suburbs with her daughter, one has to wonder if her reunion and latest team-up with Daredevil has Jones thinking about reopening her P.I. business/hero work.
