India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has ignited a social media firestorm by sharing a video from the 2007 T20 World Cup, drawing a pointed analogy between a historic cricketing victory over Pakistan and the recent Indian military action, ‘Operation Sindoor.’ The move, posted on the party’s official X handle, comes amidst heightened tensions between the two nations following recent cross-border hostilities.

BJP brutally roasts Pakistan

The 31-second clip features the dramatic bowl-out from the tied group stage match between India and Pakistan in the inaugural T20 World Cup. The video highlights the moment Indian bowlers Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Robin Uthappa successfully hit the stumps, securing a 3-0 win in the tie-breaker, while their Pakistani counterparts – Yasir Arafat, Umar Gul and Shahid Afridi – missed their targets.

Accompanying the video was the caption, “Kuch aisa tha (It was something like that). #OperationSindoor.” This seemingly simple phrase served as a not-so-subtle jibe at Pakistan’s reported unsuccessful military retaliation that followed India’s Operation Sindoor. The post quickly gained traction online, with many interpreting the cricket analogy as a direct commentary on the perceived precision and effectiveness of India’s recent military strikes compared to Pakistan’s response.

Operation Sindoor was a big hit for India

Operation Sindoor was initiated by the Indian armed forces on May 7. It was a direct response to a terror attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals. The operation targeted nine terror camps allegedly linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed groups in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Reports indicated that the operation resulted in the elimination of over 100 terrorists, including several high-value targets.

In the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, Pakistan reportedly attempted to retaliate using drones and missiles. These strikes were reportedly aimed at Indian military installations and civilian areas. However, according to the Indian media, none of these attempted attacks reached their intended destinations, as India’s air defence systems successfully intercepted all incoming threats.
