Beerus Episode 1 Release Date & Time

After years of hoping for a proper do-over of the God of Destruction’s initial introduction, the fandom is finally getting exactly what was asked for. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is finally arriving this week, bringing Goku’s first battle with the God of Destruction back to the screen in a new version of the story. The original Battle of Gods arc already had everything needed for a classic Dragon Ball fight: a new transformation, an insanely powerful opponent, and Goku discovering that there are entire levels of power sitting above Super Saiyan 3.

The problem was how the original Super anime handled it. Early Dragon Ball Super was rushing to catch up with the Battle of Gods and Frieza’s Revival, and the production showed it. Goku and Beerus’ fight gave fans some fantastic moments, but it also produced those infamous animation frames that have been dragged through the fandom for more than a decade. It is hard to talk about early Super without somebody bringing them up.

That makes this new adaptation especially interesting. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus isn’t starting with a blank slate. The story is already one of the franchise’s most important, and this time there is a chance to give it the visual treatment the material deserves while keeping the pacing much tighter.

Netflix will also stream Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, although not on the same day. Its first episode arrives on Saturday, October 17 at 12:00 AM PT, giving Netflix subscribers another way to catch the new take on one of Dragon Ball‘s biggest stories. So Crunchyroll gets the first shot at the Beerus remake, while Netflix subscribers have another option just six days later.

The really interesting part is the pacing of this version. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is squeezing the first three major arcs of Super into 19 episodes. The Beerus Arc, Frieza’s Revival Arc, and Universe 6 Tournament are all being rebuilt into one much tighter run, cutting away the padding that made the original TV version feel so much longer than its source material.

After years of criticism about early Super‘s pacing and rough animation, seeing these stories rebuilt with updated visuals and sound is easily the biggest reason to give this version a shot. And it all starts with Goku meeting the God of Destruction again.

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Is The Perfect Warm-Up Before The Galactic Patrol Finally Adapts The Moro Arc

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is only the beginning of what could be a very busy few years for the franchise. The series gives the early Super story a second chance, but the bigger deal is what comes after it. Toei has already announced The Galactic Patrol, meaning Moro is finally on the road to making his anime debut after years of being one of the biggest characters left out of the anime.

That is a pretty crazy prospect considering how long the wait has been. The original Dragon Ball Super anime stopped after the Tournament of Power in 2018, while the manga eventually moved through the Moro and Granolah storylines before going on hiatus following the tragic passing of Akira Toriyama. While the manga remains on hiatus, recent updates have given fans fresh reason to believe Toyotarou’s return could be getting closer.

For now, though, it all starts with Beerus. Goku meeting the God of Destruction again, Super Saiyan God returning with new animation, and three early Super arcs being squeezed into 19 episodes is a pretty fun way to reopen the door. If the new version lands the way Toei is hoping, the real excitement may come from seeing how quickly Dragon Ball gets back to the parts of Super that never made it to television.
