Barcelona have made a €100million (£86.7m) bid for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez as they look to further bolster their attack, with the signing of Anthony Gordon set to be confirmed.

Gordon is poised to be presented as a Barcelona player on Friday after the Blaugrana agreed a deal to sign him from Newcastle United.

The England winger arrives on a five-year contract, with Barca and Newcastle coming to terms on a fee that could rise to €80million (£69.3m) with add-ons.

Barca have now turned their attention to a long-term target in the form of Alvarez.

With Robert Lewandowski expected to depart this summer, Barca are in need of a new centre-forward and the club have sent their first official proposal to Atletico, according to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano.

The offer does not include any add-ons or involve any players going the other way. Alvarez has reportedly already asked to leave Atletico.

Alvarez scored 20 goals and provided nine assists in 2025-26, having scored 29 goals and registered seven assists in the previous campaign.

The former Manchester City striker scored two goals against Barca this season as Atletico knocked Hansi Flick’s side out of the Copa del Rey and the Champions League, though Diego Simeone’s men ultimately failed to win both competitions.

A move for Alvarez would raise further doubts about Barca signing Marcus Rashford on a permanent deal.

Barca have the option to make Rashford’s loan deal permanent for €35m (£30m) after he scored 14 goals and 11 assists this season.

They are reported to have been engaged in negotiations with Manchester United about lowering the fee, but there are suggestions that a deal for Alvarez would spell the end of Rashford’s hopes of extending his stay at Camp Nou.
