The Avengers‘ most powerful hero alive is getting a redesign that finally honors his infinite power level, with a new costume packed with secret symbols. Despite being so powerful that even Dormammu fears his might, this god-tier hero has been treated as an afterthought in recent years. Now, that’s finally over.
Late this year, Marvel fans will be treated to Wyatt Kennedy and Andy Pereira’s Wiccan: Witches’ Road. The series will see Billy Kaplan’s Wiccan embracing his full power, including a new costume designed by Luciano Vecchio. The costume includes a variety of hidden details that reference Wiccan’s near-infinite power, from the infinity symbol on his headband to the constellations dotting his costume.
As the son of the Scarlet Witch, Wiccan has incredible magical power. Billy can teleport, transform matter, read minds, amplify the powers of others and even chained the Sentry when they fought. However, even that is a shadow of his true power: Wiccan is the next ‘Demiurge’ – a being who will rewrite the laws of magic and reality. While Billy has been holding off embracing his full power, it seems he’s finally done playing human.
Avengers’ Wiccan Is Finally Embracing His Full Power
The Costume Is Hiding References to Tarot, the Zodiac and the Tree of Life
Since being introduced in Young Avengers #1 by Allan Heinburg and Jim Cheung, Wiccan has remained a constant in the franchise, acting as a member of the New Avengers, Avengers Idea Mechanics, the Secret Avengers and the Avengers Strikeforce, eventually becoming the Court Wizard of the Kree/Skrull Alliance after his husband Hulkling brought the two warring societies together under his rule.
Vecchio’s post on Instagram shows a range of inspiration for Wiccan’s new look, from his very first appearance sporting a wooden scepter to ‘The Wizard’ Tarot card, the Zodiac constellations and the Kabbalistic ‘tree of life’ – a diagram functioning as a map of the different aspects of reality. The new look also draws on Wiccan’s past costumes, those of his mother Scarlet Witch, different eras of the X-Men and the fashion of the ’90s Avengers.
The main takeaway is a sense of totality, with the infinity symbol and the Tree of Life’s aspect of Da’at (where all ten emanations of the tree unite) symbolizing reach without limits. The ‘Chaos Star’ symbol around Billy’s hand suggests he’s embracing his mother’s powers, while the new costume draws on all his past designs, including from the MCU. Vecchio notes that the design is meant to show “Billy navigating and reconciling the complexity of his multiple heritages and legacies through chaos magic.”
For years, Marvel has struggled to handle Wiccan’s power level, eventually sending him off to help rule over the Kree/Skrull empire rather than depict his immense power as a factor in Earth-set stories. Thankfully, that era is at an end, as Wiccan’s first ever solo series celebrates his power, with Vecchio’s art seemingly showing this god-tier Avenger embracing his beyond-godlike abilities as the Demiurge.
Wiccan: Witches’ Road #1 is coming December 3, 2025.
